LeadTip #38 Power Of Appreciation

“Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”” Job 1:8

Chick-Fil-A is one of the most successful organizations on the earth. According to BusinessInsider.com the company receives up to 20,000 franchise applications per year, but grants only about 80. It is easier to get into Harvard than to land a Chick-Fil-A franchise.

There is a lot we can learn from successful organizations, even secular ones, because there are principles that come from divine Biblical wisdom. One of those principles is appreciating people.

✓ Jesus was a leader who appreciated others and commended them for their action.

Serving quality food, honoring of the Sabbath and giving employees Sunday off, and offering good work benefits, are just a few reasons why Chick-Fil-A is so successful. Another reason is, Chick-Fil-A hires store leaders who are not only astute business people, but who have a contagious caring attitude.

✓ A leader’s attitude towards team members has an incredible impact upon on the entire work environment and customer experience.

For sure the church should be filled with caring leaders, who love and honor people. A church that has compassionate and encouraging leaders will draw the confirmation and favor of the LORD, ministry that is rewarding and fruitful, and facilitate a growing congregation.

✓ “Thank you” is a great term of endearment , but Chick-Fil-A, believes “my pleasure” is better.

Their philosophy is team members should not be expecting appreciation for their service to customers, but rather serving is their privilege. Jesus elevates this attitude when He says “I have come to serve, not to be served.” Matthew 29:28

Leading and loving people without expecting reward is a heart attitude that reflects the heart of Christ. It also helps create a godly environment that elevates serving as a privilege and honor.

✓ A good leader is someone others like to work with and for because they feel supported.

A good leader understands the performance of a team is connected to mutual respect, supporting a team member’s needs, and the acknowledgment of hard work, a good attitude, and desired results.
