LeadTip #40 Debt Overload
“For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.” Deuteronomy 15:6
Most people think of debt as just having to do with money. Even though money is the primary currency of debt, debt can also be emotional and spiritual depletion.
✓ God pronounces blessing as being able to give to others and not being needy ourselves.
Whether it be financial, emotional and or spiritual, we should work to have wells that are overflowing as a source of blessing to ourselves and others.
✓ Debt is basically anything that owns you rather than you owning it.
We are not designed to be out of balance in our lifestyle and not having peace of mind. Peace comes from the God of peace, Jesus. Our spiritual beings through the Holy Spirit desire right relationship with Him, and that means setting right priorities. Being consumed emotionally to gain more and more material things in life is a trap of the god of this world, Satan.
✓ Christian leaders learn to live life to the fullest.
Living a full and meaningful life means balancing financial and career aspirations and pleasure, with a desire to put Jesus first, to lead our families well, and to be instrumental in the work of the Lord
◦ Serving God is usually the first thing to go when life is out of balance.
There are 7 days per week filled with all kinds of responsibilities and activities. It is important to not displace our reasonable worship of the Lord and serving Him with everything else in life. Keeping Christ at the center of life is what keeps you in divine order and not being overloaded in debt.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1
When you take on too much of this world’s demands, or cave in to carnal desires, you tend to lose the main purpose of your life, and that is to bring God glory.
