Mary’s Song (Pastor Ron Termale) December 19, 2021 (Christmas at Legacy)

  • After Mary was informed by the angel that she would become pregnant with Jesus as a young virgin, she visited her cousin Elizabeth and saw that she had also become miraculously pregnant in her old age, just as the angel had said. Elizabeth’s baby—the future John the Baptist—leaped for joy in her womb upon Mary’s arrival as the mother-to-be of the Lord. At that moment, Mary sang this prophetic song of praise:

    • “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is His name. His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble” (Luke 1:46-52, NIV).

  • Just as Mary’s soul glorified the Lord concerning the birth of Jesus, so does something inside of us want to praise the name of Jesus. Today, we declare with millions of other people around the earth that Jesus Christ is Lord.

  • Mary sang her song because she had seen the fulfillment of the angel’s words that nothing is impossible with God.

    • God is still the God of the impossible. Currently, many thousands of Muslims are turning to Christ, for they say that they saw Jesus in their dreams.

    • Joseph, who was pledged to marry Mary, also had a dream where an angel told him that Mary had become pregnant with a son by the Holy Spirit. The angel told Joseph to still take Mary as a wife and to name the son “Jesus,” for He would save His people from their sins.

  • God might not speak to you in a dream, but He will speak to you. There is a special grace around Christmas time where God speaks to us about the wonderful name of Jesus. We hear Jesus’s name in songs being played everywhere, and it is preached from pulpits all around the world.

    • We can also feel Jesus’s presence in the lights, in the smiles of children as they are about to open gifts, and by seeing people who would never give anything miraculously start doing good deeds.

  • Christmas is a story of the impossible. Jesus’s birth and life fulfilled hundreds of prophecies spoken about Him as the Messiah centuries before He was born, which happened exactly as the prophets said.

  • God’s Christmas gift to you is salvation through Jesus Christ. When you welcome Jesus into your life, the impossible becomes a reality at that moment. His exact plans for you come alive, and you are born again.

  • Jesus promises that if you believe in Him, you will not perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16). There is no other way our souls can be saved. It is only through the person of and by the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12).
