No Such Thing as Impossible (Pastor Ron Termale) August 29, 2021

  • Impossible and God cannot coexist in the life of a believer. Impossible cannot exist, because God exists.

    • Jesus says, “for with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37, KJV). The apostle Paul also says that God is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine, according to His power at work within us (Eph 3:20).

  • Discouragement is one of the greatest enemies of your faith.

    • Discouragement is a spiritual entity that tells you that you will never be happy, will always live in lack, will never be free, and that your life will never get better. It comes to rob you of faith because it knows that Jesus said, “according to your faith let it be done to you” (Matt 9:29, NIV).

    • The dictionary defines discouragement as (a) “a loss of confidence or enthusiasm; dispiritedness,” and (b) “an attempt to prevent something…; [a] deterrent” (Oxford Dictionary of English). Since we as Christians are called to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the enemy will try to make you dispirited and rob you of your love and passion for the Lord, people, and the Church.

  • Three ways to fight against discouragement when it comes knocking on your door:

    1) Will against it.

    • Tell discouragement that you will not let it into your life. We are called to demolish every argument that sets itself up against the knowledge of God (2 Cor 10:5). Therefore, demolish discouragement.

    • Separate from people who discourage you in your faith (see Paul’s instruction not to be yoked with unbelievers in 2 Cor 6:14). Who and what you listen to will either build your faith and bring blessing, or rob you of blessing, so be careful who you hang with and what voices you listen to.

    2) Change the subject when you are hearing lies that are grieving your spirit.

    • God commanded His people not to be discouraged (Josh 1:9), so do not allow discouragement to have a conversation with you. Some practical ways to drown out discouragement are to put on worship music loudly so that you cannot hear anything else (see how Paul and Silas worshipped God in prison in Acts 16:25-26), to pray in tongues, and to take a walk and look at God’s creation.

    3) Exercise gratitude.

    • Constantly remind yourself of how God has blessed you and done the impossible in your life.

  • The enemy will use time to discourage you, telling you that your dreams are impossible now because too much time has passed. However, God will use time to prepare His best for you. Some of the greatest couples in the church are those who waited on God when they were single and trusted His promises.
